BURNOUT SYNDROME AND ITS IMPACTS ON LABOR LAW

Abstract

Burnout syndrome, also known as professional exhaustion syndrome, is an occupational disorder characterized by physical and mental exhaustion resulting from chronic stress in the workplace. The purpose of this article is to analyze the syndrome by explaining its causes, symptoms, diagnostic process, and appropriate treatment. In addition, the study examines the legal consequences arising from Burnout syndrome within the employment relationship. Furthermore, applicable laws and regulations related to the subject are presented, as well as how they protect employees who develop the condition. The study also outlines the appropriate procedures for adopting the necessary measures following diagnosis. The methodology used in this research consists of a bibliographic review, based on the analysis of legislation, academic articles, case law, and legal doctrine addressing the topic. This study seeks to provide an overview of the current scenario faced by professionals affected by Burnout syndrome, as well as to explain how the condition is recognized, treated, and legally protected within the Brazilian legal system. Finally, the importance of this topic for Labor Law is emphasized, highlighting the need for measures that ensure employees’ mental health and the protection of well-being in the work environment.
